Canadian pop star Tate McRae officially kicked off a brand-new music era on Thursday, Oct. 15, with the release of her single “Housewife.” The track serves as the lead single from her upcoming fourth studio album and arrives accompanied by a striking music video filmed in the South of France.
The 23-year-old artist first generated buzz for the track earlier in October during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Speaking with host Jimmy Fallon, McRae described the central character of her new song as “a woman who can’t be contained.” The striking single artwork features the singer wearing a red bikini and sunglasses next to a baby stroller filled with stacks of cash, instantly sparking conversation online.
Dropping Easter Eggs and Teasing the Fourth Album
Long before the official release, McRae had been planting clues about her upcoming musical chapter. During her headlining set at Lollapalooza in Chicago last August, she closed out the performance by taking a dip in gold and airing a video sequence featuring a ticking clock alongside an unreleased song snippet.
McRae later joked that her fanbase, known as “Tater Tots,” completely missed the hidden messages she left behind. “My fans, in particular, we drop Easter eggs all the time, and they get none of them. They always catch onto things that are completely wrong,” she shared during her television appearance, noting that the word “Housewife” was actually displayed on screens when her Lollapalooza set began.
The new single follows a successful cycle for McRae, whose third studio album, So Close to What, dropped in February 2025 and debuted at the top of the Billboard 200 with 177,000 total album-equivalent units earned. A deluxe edition of the album followed in November 2025.
Building Momentum for the Next Era
As McRae prepares for her fourth full-length album, hitmaker and OneRepublic frontman Ryan Tedder has confirmed his involvement in the upcoming project. While specific production details for “Housewife” remain part of a broader rollout-which included a nighttime garden dance video shared on Instagram-the track sets a playful, high-energy tone for what is next.
With “Housewife” now available across streaming platforms via RCA Records, fans are eagerly awaiting further announcements regarding the official release date, tracklist, and title of McRae’s fourth studio album.
