Singer Tinashe is enjoying one of the most successful commercial stretches of her career. However, she reveals there is one major industry milestone she has officially stopped chasing: a GRAMMY nomination.
During a promotional appearance for her album Popstar on Owen Thiele’s show In Your Dreams with Owen Thiele, Tinashe opened up about her relationship with the Recording Academy. More than a decade into her solo run, the singer shared that she has let go of hopes for recognition from the awards body.
“I would have loved to win a Grammy for, like, ever, but, like, I gave that one up,” Tinashe told Thiele. “I’ve never even been nominated. It’s okay. I gave it up. It’s fine. So now I’ve moved on to a family and children.”
Thiele appeared visibly stunned by the revelation. He pointed directly to her 2024 smash hit “Nasty” as a glaring omission from past award consideration. Tinashe agreed with the sentiment regarding the track, which quickly became a defining anthem of her career and a viral social media sensation.
Despite missing out on GRAMMY recognition, Tinashe’s commercial fortunes continue to climb. Her critically acclaimed album Popstar is projected to make a strong debut on the Billboard 200 chart. Industry forecasters at HITS Daily Double projected an opening of approximately 27,000 units to land at #15.
Chart Success and Moving Forward
Should the initial projections hold, the new LP will comfortably surpass the #17 peak of her 2014 debut album, Aquarius. This will deliver the highest-charting album of her career to date. The milestone arrives as proof that the independent-minded artist is achieving career-best numbers without relying on traditional institutional validation.
While the lack of GRAMMY nominations remains a point of discussion among fans and peers alike, Tinashe’s recent comments make it clear that her focus has shifted toward personal fulfillment and sustained artistic freedom.
