The United States golf team achieved a historical comeback victory at the 2026 Presidents Cup on Sunday at Medinah No. 3 near Chicago, dominating the final day’s singles matches to defeat the International team 17-13. Entering Sunday’s 12 concluding singles matches trailing 10.5-7.5, the American squad delivered a brilliant performance to deny the International team their attempt to end a 28-year win drought in the biennial rivalry.
Jacob Bridgeman secured the winning point for the United States at the suburban Chicago layout-the same historic venue where Europe staged the 2012 Ryder Cup comeback-by sinking a four-foot par putt on the 18th hole to defeat Australia’s Min Woo Lee 1-up.
Led by captain Brandt Snedeker, the U.S. team faced an uphill battle after the International squad seized control earlier in the week. The Americans won Thursday’s opening four-ball session 3-2, but the Internationals answered emphatically with a 5-0 sweep in Friday foursomes. Although the U.S. clawed back Saturday morning, the International team held a 10.5-7.5 lead heading into Sunday.
Needing 7.5 points out of the 12 available singles matches to retain the trophy, the U.S. squad captured nine of the twelve matches. Early momentum was set by Cameron Young, who defeated Ryo Hisatsune 3 and 2, and Justin Thomas, who routed Corey Conners 5 and 3 for his first career Presidents Cup singles win.
World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler added a crucial point with a 2-and-1 victory over Nico Echavarria. The match featured a moment of high sportsmanship when Scheffler conceded a 30-foot par putt after a spectator yelled during Echavarria’s backswing.
“There’s absolutely no place for that,” Scheffler remarked regarding the spectator disruption.
Rookie standout Jackson Koivun continued his impressive run by defeating top International player Si Woo Kim 2 up, while Collin Morikawa delivered a dramatic 1-up victory over Hideki Matsuyama by sinking a 30-foot birdie on the 15th hole.
The International team earned Sunday singles victories from Tom Kim over Wyndham Clark (3 and 2) and Sungjae Im over Sam Burns (3 and 1), alongside a halved match between Nick Taylor and Russell Henley. However, Captain Geoff Ogilvy’s squad was unable to hold off the relentless American charge.
With the final victory sealed by Bridgeman on the 18th green, the United States extended its consecutive winning streak in the event to 11 straight Cups, cementing another remarkable chapter in team golf history.
