Vernon Kay Avoids Traitors Spoiler on BBC Radio 2 Show

October 7, 2026 2 min read 0 comments

BBC Radio 2 presenter Vernon Kay narrowly avoided revealing a major reality television spoiler during his live broadcast, dodging potential backlash from listeners who tune in on catch-up services. The incident occurred while the 52-year-old host discussed the hit BBC series Celebrity Traitors with his studio colleagues during the October 6 broadcast.

During the mid-morning show segment, Kay asked his team whether anyone had left the castle in the latest episodes of the murder-mystery programme. Colleague Ellie Brennan immediately warned against dropping spoilers. Producer Phil McGarvey chimed in to note that someone had indeed left, directing listeners to catch up on BBC iPlayer.

Kay quickly realized he had nearly disclosed key plot points. He credited the quick fading of his microphone with preventing the disclosure. "Good job the mic was down then," Kay said on air. "Good job I was quick on the fade, we would have loads and loads of complaints on the texts. Well done pal."

The near-miss follows previous listener complaints faced by the presenter. Kay recently admitted to receiving a "tonne of grief" after accidentally revealing the winner of the ITV retail reality format Dress the Nation live on air before many fans had watched the finale.

Addressing Mysterious Graffiti Linking Him to 1990s Pop Group Steps

In the same broadcast, Kay faced lighthearted questioning from Ellie Brennan regarding bizarre graffiti that has mysteriously appeared in West Denton, near Newcastle. The spray-painted messages have captured local attention, with one particular piece claiming that "Vernon Kay listens to Steps in the bath."

When asked on air if the rumor was true, Kay joked that he had been "outed." He leaned into the playful interrogation by belting out a few lines of the 1990s pop group’s hit track, "Tragedy," much to the amusement of his radio colleagues and listeners.

The unusual graffiti trend in the North East town also features other humorous celebrity claims, including messages about television personalities Lorraine Kelly and Stacey Solomon. Meanwhile, Kay continues to command a massive audience on BBC Radio 2, pulling in a weekly listenership of 6.8 million according to recent RAJAR figures.
