Tesla, Inc. faces heightened market risks due to mounting competition from Chinese electric vehicle manufacturers, reduced delivery forecasts, and massive capital expenditures on artificial intelligence and space projects. In response, Wall Street financial analysts are adjusting their outlooks for the company.
Despite the stock maintaining a market capitalization of $1.1 trillion and trading around $372 per share, financial firms are evaluating significant operational headwinds. Out of 48 analysts covering the electric vehicle leader, 43 retain buy or hold ratings, while five rate it as an underweight or sell, according to market tracking data. Recent adjustments include BNP Paribas lowering its price target on Tesla from $280 to $268 while maintaining an underperform rating.
Financial Performance and Cost Pressures
Tesla’s second-quarter financial performance highlighted growing cost pressures across multiple segments. Group revenue rose 26 percent to $28.2 billion. However, net income fell 5 percent to $1.1 billion, and operating income dropped 57 percent due to rising investments in artificial intelligence and robotics.
The company currently trades at a trailing price-to-earnings ratio of 343 times. Revenue distribution highlights that auto sales account for 69.4 percent of total revenue, followed by energy generation and storage systems at 13.5 percent and services at 13.2 percent.

Market Competition and Delivery Forecasts
Intensifying competition in both electric vehicles and autonomous vehicles has prompted major firms to trim their delivery estimates. Chinese EV makers like BYD and XPeng are aggressively slashing prices and offering financing incentives, which puts direct pressure on Tesla’s market share.
Key areas currently monitored by analysts include:
- EV pricing trends and Tesla’s ability to maintain profit margins amid price wars.
- Autonomous vehicle developments and competition from upcoming robotaxi platforms.
- Regulatory and competitive market conditions in China and the European Union.
Analyst Consensus and Forecasts
While some firms have adopted cautious stances, broader consensus metrics compiled across major financial trackers show varying expectations. S&P Global polling indicates an average consensus price target hovering near $396.94 among specific groups, while broader multi-analyst tracking averages position price targets near $389.04.
Financial institutions continue to evaluate upcoming quarterly earnings reports to gauge how management plans to navigate compressed margins, elevated capital expenditures, and intensifying global competition in the automotive and energy sectors.
