Developer Jagex announced on October 3, 2026, that it has partnered with digital creator Charlie “MoistCr1TiKaL” White and Lyrical Animation to produce a brand-new animated television series based on the long-running RuneScape video game franchise. The adaptation aims to bring the fantasy world of Gielinor to television screens worldwide.

The project was initially revealed by Jagex Chief Executive Officer Jon Bellamy during the Old School RuneScape keynote at RuneFest in Birmingham, UK. According to studio leadership, Lyrical Animation will co-produce the series alongside White’s production company, Meatier Productions. Project development is currently in its early stages, with more detailed production updates expected to be shared in 2027.

Expanding Gielinor Beyond Gaming

Since its initial launch in 2001, the RuneScape franchise has grown into a massively popular medieval fantasy multiplayer online role-playing game. Over the past 25 years, the property has generated more than $3 billion in lifetime revenue and accumulated over 300 million registered accounts across its various iterations, including RuneScape, Old School RuneScape, and RuneScape Dragonwilds.

“For 25 years, our players have helped shape ‘RuneScape’s’ extraordinary world, its characters and its stories,” said Jon Bellamy, CEO of Jagex. “When we talk about the future of ‘RuneScape,’ we don’t just mean games. We see huge potential to bring Gielinor to life in new ways…”

The upcoming television adaptation is part of a broader corporate strategy by Jagex to expand its flagship intellectual property beyond the traditional gaming ecosystem, introducing the lore and inhabitants of Gielinor to a mainstream audience.

Key Collaborators and Creative Vision

Charlie “MoistCr1TiKaL” White brings personal history to the project as a dedicated fan and veteran player of the franchise. Having amassed more than 25 million followers across his digital platforms, White noted that he has played RuneScape for 22 years.

Lyrical Animation, operating under parent company Lyrical Media, contributes substantial expertise in game adaptations, having previously worked on animated projects for high-profile properties such as Bloodborne and Death Stranding. Daniel Dominguez, creative director of Lyrical Animation, emphasized the unique tonal balance of the source material.

“RuneScape has such a unique storytelling voice, at once laugh-out-loud funny and effortlessly insightful,” said Dominguez. “To be allowed to help bring that to life for its millions of fans alongside our dear friend Charlie again is a dream come true.”

Future Outlook for the Franchise

The announcement of the animated television series coincides with a wave of major franchise developments unveiled at RuneFest 2026. Alongside the TV adaptation, Jagex teased early development details for a fourth MMO in the franchise-temporarily referred to as RS4-built using Unreal Engine for a new generation of players. As development continues on both fronts, fans can anticipate further announcements regarding the television series throughout 2027.
