David Fincher’s acclaimed crime thrillers Zodiac and Se7en have surged in popularity on HBO Max as of October 13, 2026. Both films have climbed the platform’s rankings across multiple international markets, highlighting the enduring appeal of the director’s dark, methodical storytelling.
Global Streaming Performance
Data from FlixPatrol shows that these two R-rated classics have become staples of the HBO Max library in several territories. Zodiac, the 2007 mystery centered on the hunt for the San Francisco serial killer, is trending in 13 countries and holds a top-three position in 10 of them. Se7en, the 1995 psychological thriller, has reached even further, trending in 14 countries and ranking as the second most-watched movie on the platform in 12.
The streaming landscape remains fragmented, however. Neither film is currently available on HBO Max in the United States. Domestic viewers looking to stream these titles must use platforms such as Paramount+ or Fubo.
A Legacy of Crime and Obsession
The continued success of these films reflects a lasting cultural fascination with Fincher’s work. Zodiac, starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Robert Downey Jr., is praised for its meticulous investigation of the Zodiac Killer case. Se7en, starring Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman, remains a benchmark for the serial killer genre due to its grim atmosphere and moral ambiguity.
Fincher’s influence extends beyond these features. His career includes high-profile streaming projects such as the political drama House of Cards, the animated anthology Love, Death + Robots, and the psychological crime series Mindhunter, all of which have solidified his status as a master of the medium.
Looking Ahead: The Next Chapter
This global streaming momentum comes at a busy time for the director. Fincher is currently preparing for his next major release, The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth. This sequel to Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood features a screenplay by Tarantino and reunites Fincher with Brad Pitt. The film is scheduled for a limited theatrical run beginning November 25, 2026, followed by a Netflix release on December 23, 2026.
