Four people have been arrested following a shooting in central Nottingham that left a male police officer hospitalized with a serious foot injury. The incident occurred early Sunday morning when the officer approached two suspects at a bus stop on Angel Row shortly before 4:50 a.m. BST.

According to Nottinghamshire Police, the injured officer remains in hospital in a stable condition following surgery. Local leaders and officials have emphasized the severe nature of the attack. Nottinghamshire Police and Crime Commissioner Gary Godden noted that the officer’s injuries, while not life-threatening, are likely to be life-altering.

Arrests Made Across Nottingham and Bedfordshire

A fast-moving police investigation led to four arrests within 24 hours of the shooting. On Sunday evening, armed units stopped a vehicle in the Radford area of Nottingham and detained three individuals:

  • A 27-year-old woman arrested on sus**cion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and possessing a firearm with intent to endanger life.
  • A 24-year-old man arrested on sus**cion of assisting an offender.
  • A 25-year-old woman arrested on sus**cion of assisting an offender.

In the early hours of Monday morning, a fourth suspect-a 30-year-old man-was arrested in Bedfordshire after officers intercepted another vehicle. He was also taken into custody on sus**cion of assisting an offender. All four suspects remain in police custody undergoing questioning by detectives.

Police and Community Response

Investigators initially cordoned off Angel Row to gather forensic evidence. This included deploying evidence markers around the scene where a weapon resembling a sawn-off double-barrelled shotgun was reportedly spotted. The police cordon has since been lifted, and local businesses have resumed normal operations.

Assistant Chief Constable Claire Rukas praised the efforts of the investigating team and thanked the public for their cooperation.

“A team of experienced detectives continues to work tirelessly to establish exactly what happened before, during and after this appalling incident,” ACC Rukas said. “I am pleased that four arrests have now been made and hope this provides some reassurance to the public as those detained are questioned in connection with the discharge of the firearm.”

The Police Federation of England and Wales issued a statement calling the attack a stark reminder of the dangers officers face daily. Meanwhile, Nadia Whittome, the Labour MP for Nottingham East, commended the resilience of the community. She praised the emergency responders and bystanders who stepped forward to assist immediately after the early morning shooting.
