A Nottinghamshire Police officer is receiving hospital treatment after being shot in the foot during an early morning encounter in Nottingham city centre. The incident unfolded shortly before 4:50 a.m. on Sunday when the officer approached two individuals in Angel Row.

According to Nottinghamshire Police, the suspects-described as a man and a woman-fled the scene immediately following the shooting and remain at large. Detectives have recovered a firearm at the location, and a substantial police presence remains active while forensic teams examine the area.

Extensive Police Cordons and Ongoing Investigation

Following the shooting, authorities established a wide police cordon encompassing Angel Row and extending towards St James’s Street. Several police vehicles are stationed along the road, which is flanked by shops and fast-food establishments, while orange traffic cones mark items left behind on the tarmac.

Investigators are treating the search for the two fugitive suspects as a top priority. Law enforcement agencies have urged residents, business owners, and motorists in the area to check dashcam or CCTV footage that might aid the investigation.

Senior Leadership Condemns the Violence

Assistant Chief Constable Claire Rukas of Nottinghamshire Police addressed the public following the incident, highlighting the inherent risks law enforcement personnel face daily.

"This is a shocking incident and a sobering reminder of the potential dangers faced by officers as they work to protect and serve the public," said Assistant Chief Constable Claire Rukas. "As we investigate what happened and work to apprehend the individuals involved, my thoughts today are with the injured officer, his family and colleagues."

Rukas also issued a direct appeal to the community for actionable information. "I also ask that anyone with additional information shares this with us without delay. Even the smallest bit of information could make all the difference to this investigation."

Public and Emergency Services Reaction

Wishes for a full and speedy recovery poured in from regional agencies, including the East Midlands Ambulance Service, which shared a message of support on social media expressing solidarity with Nottinghamshire Police.

Local residents and workers expressed shock over the violence unfolding in a central nightlife district.
