Cardi B Delivers Eight Songs at NPR Tiny Desk Concert

October 20, 2026 3 min read 0 comments

Cardi B brought her chart-topping catalog, signature personality, and a nine-piece backing band to NPR’s Washington, D.C., offices on October 19, 2026. Performing eight songs in an 18-minute Tiny Desk Concert, the Grammy-winning rapper traded the massive arena stages of her Little Miss Drama Tour for an intimate office setting. This performance attracted one of the largest crowds in the history of the series.

Accompanied by a live ensemble directed by Adam Blackstone, Cardi B moved between emotionally charged material and high-energy anthems. The performance offered refreshed, rock-influenced live arrangements of tracks from her 2025 sophomore album, Am I the Drama?, alongside career-defining smash hits from her early catalog.

Inside Cardi B’s 18-Minute Tiny Desk Setlist

Dressed in a structured blazer and sleek black latex pants, the Bronx native kicked off her performance with “Hello,” establishing an instant confident tone. She followed with “ErrTime,” showcasing how live drums, guitar, keyboards, and horns could breathe new life into her newer studio recordings.

After the initial high-energy tracks, Cardi shifted the mood into vulnerable territory. She performed “Man of Your Word” and “Be Careful,” the latter originating from her breakout 2018 debut album, Invasion of Privacy. Addressing the emotional weight of those songs, she quipped mid-set before demanding a change in atmosphere, telling the room to “change the vibes.”

The pace immediately accelerated as she rolled into her Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 hit “Up” and her 2026 single “AH HA.” Bringing the set to a triumphant close, Cardi reached back for two defining anthems of her career: her 2017 breakout sensation “Bodak Yellow” and her Diamond-certified collaboration “I Like It.”

The Live Band and Unfiltered Humor

Music director Adam Blackstone led the tight ensemble, which featured DJ Ray G, keyboardist Eugene Roberts, guitarist Clayton Sears, and drummer Cedric Thompson. The instrumental lineup was rounded out by saxophonist Kenneth Whalum, trumpeter Melvin Jones, and background vocalists Tiffany Stevens and Ebony Franklin.

True to form, Cardi mixed her musical performance with spontaneous comedy. During a brief water break, she joked about smoking cigarettes and humorously lamented to the NPR crew that her backstage rider lacked Maryland crab cakes, receiving vegetables instead. Despite the intimate constraints, she danced with the crowd and shared hugs as the final notes of “I Like It” rang out, cementing another milestone in a busy year that also included her recent single “Don’t Chart” from Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album.
