Multi-hyphenate star Keke Palmer recently shared a lighthearted dating story during a media appearance while simultaneously advancing her major educational and creative collaboration with the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Juggling personal anecdotes with high-profile professional ventures, Palmer continues to expand her footprint across both the entertainment industry and academic mentorship.
During an appearance on the Friends Keep Secrets podcast released on October 13, Palmer recounted a surprising and flirtatious encounter with an acquaintance. Speaking to hosts Benny Blanco, Lil Dicky, and Kristin Batalucco, the Emmy Award-winning actress and television host described how a man playfully bit the back of her head at an event. Initially caught off guard, Palmer recognized him and found the exchange amusing after he playfully suggested the action reflected his behavior in the bedroom. The pair later shared time together on the dance floor.
While her personal life captures headlines, Palmer’s professional focus remains firmly rooted in empowering the next generation of filmmakers and creators. Her partnership with the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television (TFT) represents a significant expansion of her media network, KeyTV.
The UCLA TFT and KeyTV Collaboration
Officially announced to launch fully across the academic calendar, the collaboration establishes Palmer-credited professionally as Lauren Palmer-as a central figure in creative education. Titled “From Blocking to Broadcast,” the multi-year initiative is designed to bridge the gap between institutional training and real-world media production.
Beginning in the 2026-2027 academic year, Palmer will serve as an artist-in-residence, leading quarterly workshops on campus. The curriculum covers essential industry topics, including:
- Pitching and project development
- Distribution strategy and execution
- Business ownership and financial literacy
- Career sustainability in a shifting digital landscape
- Personal brand development and audience engagement
Starting in the 2027-2028 academic year, TFT students will participate in a fully sponsored studio course to develop and produce original multimedia projects. Under the guidance of faculty and direct mentorship from Palmer, student projects-ranging from video podcasts and television pilots to music videos and theatrical works-will have a guaranteed distribution pathway through KeyTV, pending quality review.
Building Infrastructure for Underrepresented Voices
Founded by Palmer in 2021 and launched in November 2022, KeyTV is a digital media platform dedicated entirely to BIPOC-creator-led productions. In just a few years, the platform has generated nearly 30 original projects and expanded community immersion programs for young creatives.
UCLA TFT Dean Celine Parreñas Shimizu praised the partnership for addressing systemic gaps in the entertainment industry. The residency program-curated under the guiding theme Know Yourself, Own Yourself, Free Yourself to Build New Frameworks for Change-draws on critical theory, philosophy, and practical enterprise to help students claim ownership of their creative labor.
“We know that education is key to democratizing opportunities and I am eager to both learn from and support UCLA TFT students,” Palmer stated regarding the residency. By combining her industry tenacity with institutional academic training, Palmer aims to give emerging artists multiple chances to succeed in a rapidly evolving digital ecosystem.
