Amanda Seyfried recently opened up about her time working with legendary actress Meryl Streep, offering high praise for her co-star’s talent and grounded demeanor. Reflecting on their collaboration in the 2008 musical film Mamma Mia!, Seyfried shared fresh insights during her appearance at the Hamptons International Film Festival on October 4.
During a conversation at the festival, Seyfried discussed the experience of playing Streep’s on-screen daughter. The actress described the veteran performer as easy to work with, noting how Streep consistently brings total honesty and presence to every scene.
“She’s super chill and always honest in every performance,” Seyfried told the audience. “You could have a script written by the worst computer, and she would make it make sense and feel authentic.”
While discussing the ease of acting with someone of Streep’s caliber, Seyfried noted that intimidation is the sole factor that can negatively impact a shared sequence.
“You can’t go wrong, unless you are intimidated,” Seyfried explained. “And then you can, you can totally just ruin the vibe.”
The 2008 adaptation of Mamma Mia! featured a star-studded cast that included Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth, Stellan Skarsgård, Christine Baranski, Julie Walters, and Dominic Cooper. The core cast returned for the 2018 sequel, Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, which also introduced Cher and Lily James.
Potential for a Third Installment
As fans and cast members speculate about a third film in the franchise, executives and actors have expressed enthusiasm for bringing the ensemble back together. Universal Pictures Chairwoman Donna Langley stated in February that a third installment is anticipated, noting that studio leadership intends to find a way to include Streep’s character.
Streep has previously expressed openness to reprising her role, telling Vogue in 2023 that she is “up for anything” if the creative direction and scheduling align.
Seyfried’s remarks highlight the enduring professional respect and bond between the two actors, keeping hopes alive among musical fans for a future reunion.
