Amazon Unveils Refreshed Kindle Lineup With Upgraded Display Tech

October 2, 2026 3 min read 0 comments

Amazon refreshed its e-reader portfolio on October 1, 2026. The tech giant launched updated versions of the entry-level Kindle, Kindle Paperwhite, and Kindle Colorsoft devices. These new models feature slimmer designs, unibody construction, and vibrant new color options. Ahead of the brand’s 20th anniversary in 2027, Amazon introduced notable structural and display updates across the hardware ecosystem without altering base prices.

The standard 6-inch entry-level Kindle now features a flush-front display level with the surrounding bezel, which removes the raised borders of previous generations. Starting at $149.99, this base plastic model weighs 4.9 ounces (140 grams), down from 5.56 ounces on the prior version. It also measures 6.8mm thick, shaving a full millimeter off the profile. Amazon relocated the power button from the bottom to the top right side to create a uniform button placement across all new devices.

Upgraded Materials and Premium Signature Editions

Moving toward more premium builds, Amazon introduced optional aluminum rear housing made from 80 percent recycled aluminum. A premium aluminum-backed version of the standard Kindle is available for $189.99. This model doubles the internal storage to 32GB and offers colors like Alpine Sky and Seaglass Green. The entry plastic Kindle is offered in Graphite and a vivid purple shade called Ube, which replaces the Matcha green introduced in 2024.

The popular Kindle Paperwhite keeps its 7-inch screen, waterproof design, and adjustable warm lighting. It benefits from a molded plastic body that drops its weight to 204 grams. The standard plastic Paperwhite comes with 16GB of storage in Graphite for $199.99. Meanwhile, the Paperwhite Signature Edition upgrades to an aluminum shell, 32GB of storage, auto-adjusting front lights, and pogo pins for wireless charging with an optional dock. It retails for $249.99 ahead of an October 28 ship date.

The Kindle Colorsoft mirrors these design updates. It keeps its underlying color e-paper display technology while adopting the new unibody architecture. The regular Colorsoft costs $289.99 in Graphite. The Colorsoft Signature Edition features an aluminum body, 32GB of storage, and an auto-adjusting front light. It costs $319.99 in Graphite or a rich burgundy shade called Fig, launching on October 28.

New Accessories Bring Back Page-Turn Buttons

Amazon addressed user requests for physical navigation controls after discontinuing the Kindle Oasis. The company unveiled two major accessories designed to make page-turning easier:

  • Kindle Click ($34.99): A compact Bluetooth remote with two large buttons for turning pages forward and backward, plus side buttons for adjusting screen brightness. It works with the new lineup and any Kindle model released from 2024 onward.
  • Page-Turn Cover ($79.99): A magnetic case that uses pogo-pin connectivity to add physical page-turn buttons directly to the Signature Editions of the new Kindle Paperwhite and Kindle Colorsoft.
  • Charging Dock ($59.99): An upright charging stand compatible with the Signature Edition Paperwhite and Colorsoft models.
  • Kindle Covers (starting at $39.99): Available in knit fabric, plant-based leather, and pebbled premium leather options color-matched across the lineup.

The standard Kindle, aluminum variants, and Kids device editions are available immediately. The updated Paperwhite and Colorsoft units are slated to ship later in October.
