With his biggest night of the year approaching and Christmas at risk, Santa must recruit a thief from his Naughty List, played by Ritchson. This reluctant recruit then assembles a crew of skilled misfits to execute a high-stakes heist.
A Dramatic Visual Transformation for the Action Icon
Schwarzenegger debuts a fresh screen appearance for the role. Abandoning traditional depictions, his version of Saint Nick features long wavy gray hair, a full white beard, and festive winter wear. Early promotional images and teaser clips shot on location in Midtown Manhattan went viral online, generating buzz among fans eager to see the former California governor in a comedic holiday role.
The film’s tone blends classic Christmas adventure tropes with fast-paced heist elements, drawing comparisons to a festive version of Ocean’s Eleven. At the end of the teaser, Schwarzenegger nods to his cinematic past by declaring, “I’m back!”
An All-Star Supporting Ensemble
Alongside Schwarzenegger and Ritchson-who plays the thief named Vance-the movie features a recognizable supporting cast. The ensemble includes Berkeley James, Michael Cyril Creighton, Liza Koshy, Saturday Night Live alumnus Kyle Mooney, Jane Krakowski, and Ken Jeong.
Behind the camera, the production is backed by Amazon MGM Studios. Producers include Lawrence Grey, Ben Everard, Reg Tigerman, Dan Spilo, and Alan Ritchson. Cinematography is handled by Jonathan Sela, and the original score is composed by John Debney.
Release Schedule and Streaming Strategy
Initially rumored for a late 2025 release before slipping off studio schedules, The Man With the Bag found its home on Prime Video’s early December calendar. Launching globally on December 2 gives the project prime positioning at the start of the holiday viewing season, allowing it to trend across streaming charts.
For Schwarzenegger, who recently starred in the second season of his Netflix series FUBAR and has a new entry in the Conan the Barbarian franchise gearing up for 2027, this project offers a rare comedic playground. Whether The Man With the Bag achieves long-term holiday classic status remains to be seen, but its unique premise ensures it will be a major streaming event of the festive season.
