German luxury automaker Audi has announced plans to invest approximately $4 billion to construct its very first United States production facility. Located at the Middle Georgia Megasite, the ambitious project is projected to create around 4,500 new jobs for workers in the region, marking a major milestone for both the company and the local economy.
The announcement was shared during a regional event by company leadership alongside state officials, including Governor Brian P. Kemp. According to Audi AG CEO and Chairman of the Board of Management Gernot Döllner, the new plant is designed to establish North America as a core pillar of Audi’s global production network, sitting alongside existing operations in Europe and China.
Project Timeline and Production Capacity
Construction and development for the multi-billion-dollar facility are scheduled to follow a structured timeline. Grading on the Middle Georgia Megasite is expected to begin in 2027, with physical construction kicking off shortly after. Full-scale production at the plant is anticipated to start in the early 2030s, specifically targeting 2031.
Once fully operational, the site is expected to reach an annual manufacturing capacity of up to 200,000 vehicles. The facility will primarily focus on building cutting-edge, premium SUVs specifically tailored to meet the preferences and demands of North American customers.

Strategic Advantages of the Middle Georgia Megasite
Audi selected the Middle Georgia Megasite-developed by the Mid-Georgia Gateway Joint Development Authority (MGGJDA), encompassing Peach, Houston, and Macon-Bibb counties-after an extensive site evaluation process. Company executives cited several key advantages that made the location ideal:
- Speed-to-Market: The site features adjacent industrial utilities and complete due diligence reports, allowing for a rapid construction timeline.
- Logistics Infrastructure: Direct access to Norfolk Southern Class I rail allows shipments to reach both the Port of Savannah and the Port of Brunswick in under five hours. Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is also within a 90-minute drive.
- Skilled Workforce: Georgia’s established automotive supplier network and specialized workforce training programs provided a ready ecosystem for industrial scaling.
To support the workforce pipeline, the Technical College System of Georgia and Georgia Quick Start will partner with Audi to design custom training facilities and specialized instructional curricula for local employees.
Strengthening Competitiveness in North America
By establishing local production lines, Audi aims to significantly strengthen its market competitiveness across the United States. Manufactured locally, the new lineup of premium SUVs will help the brand reduce exposure to currency fluctuations and international trade risks while bringing manufacturing closer to its core customer base.
The venture marks a foundational chapter for Audi’s long-term growth strategy in the United States, cementing a lasting partnership between the legendary German automotive brand and the hardworking communities of Middle Georgia.
