The BBC has confirmed that the Liverpool-set crime drama This City Is Ours will return for its second series on Sunday, October 25. All eight 60-minute episodes will be available to stream on BBC iPlayer from the premiere date. The series will also air weekly on BBC One on Sunday and Monday nights at 9 p.m.
Created by Stephen Butchard and produced by Left Bank Pictures, the award-winning drama follows the events of the first series. After its debut in March 2025, the show attracted an average audience of 6.2 million viewers and received BAFTA Television Award nominations for Best Drama and Leading Actor.
What to Expect in Series Two
The second series begins as Michael Kavanagh, played by BAFTA-nominated and RTS award-winner James Nelson-Joyce, and his partner Diana Williams, played by Hannah Onslow, arrive in Spain. Their plans to leave their past behind face immediate disruption when they must answer questions regarding the death of Ricardo. Ricardo was a Colombian cartel member killed in the series one finale.
In Liverpool, tensions grow among the remaining gang members. Chaos increases with the arrival of Ozzie Thompson, an old-school gangster from Ronnie Phelan’s era recently released from prison, who demands financial compensation from the firm.
New and Returning Cast Members
James Nelson-Joyce and Hannah Onslow lead a returning cast that includes Jack McMullen as Jamie Phelan, Mike Noble as Banksey, and Julie Graham as Elaine Phelan. Elaine is the widow of murdered gang leader Ronnie, who was originally played by Sean Bean.
Two new actors join the ensemble for series two:
- Shaun Evans (Endeavour, Until I Kill You) as Ozzie Thompson, the former gangster seeking retribution.
- Álvaro Morte (Money Heist, The Wheel of Time) as Felipe Guzman, a dangerous member of the Colombian cartel and the younger brother of the late Ricardo.
Additional returning cast members include Laura Aikman as Rachel Duffy, Kevin Harvey as Bobby Duffy, Saoirse-Monica Jackson as Cheryl Crawford, Darci Shaw as Melissa Sullivan, Adam Abbou as Freddie, and Bobby Schofield as Bonehead.
Production and Behind-the-Scenes Team
Filming for the eight-part second series took place in Liverpool and Spain. Stephen Butchard returns as lead writer, with an additional episode written by Robbie O’Neill.
Saul Dibb returns as lead director, joined by returning director John Hayes and new director Chris Baugh. Simon Maloney and Nathan Juckes serve as producers. Andy Harries, Rebecca Hodgson, and Sian McWilliams executive produce for Left Bank Pictures, alongside Stephen Butchard, Saul Dibb, and Jo McClellan for the BBC. Sony Pictures Television handles international distribution.
Viewers can watch series one on BBC iPlayer ahead of the return of This City Is Ours on October 25.
