Longtime television personality Carson Daly is stepping back from hosting duties for a special upcoming edition of NBC’s The Voice. Actress and entertainer Keke Palmer will take over the stage for the spinoff. Despite the change, Daly confirmed he is not leaving the franchise entirely and will continue serving as an executive producer.
The transition affects The Voice: Celebrity, designated as Season 31, which is scheduled to premiere in spring 2027. While Daly has hosted every season of the singing competition since its 2011 debut, he explained that the unique celebrity format requires a different type of host.
Clearing Up Confusion on Instagram
Following the network’s announcement regarding the celebrity edition and Palmer’s new role, Daly took to Instagram to address concerns about his future with the show.
“Hiya friends! So today we announced our new upcoming ‘Celebrity’ version of @nbcthevoice… ‘Celeb Voice’ is a fun, NEW IDEA that features some big differences like… FAMOUS PEOPLE singing for 3 coaches to see if they have what it takes… I am not the right host for it. We have a NEW amazing HOST! The triple threat queen @keke who is PERFECT for it!”
Daly praised Palmer for joining the production and directly answered fans asking if he was leaving the series. “Many today have asked if I’m leaving the show. Nope,” he stated.
What to Expect From The Voice: Celebrity
Season 31 marks a major departure from the traditional format. Instead of searching for undiscovered vocalists, the spinoff will feature stars from entertainment, sports, and social media competing for a celebrity championship title.
The new format introduces several creative elements:
- Boot Camp: A look at how celebrities prepare for their high-stakes Blind Auditions.
- The VIP Room: A dedicated space where competing artists watch and react to each other’s performances.
- The Workroom: An inside look at rehearsals and strategy sessions leading up to the Battle rounds.
The coaching panel for the celebrity edition includes Joe Jonas, Queen Latifah, and country music star Riley Green.
Scheduling and the Return of the Flagship Series
Insiders suggest that scheduling logistics influenced Daly’s decision. Managing his daily role as a co-anchor on NBC’s Today, his executive producer duties, and time with his family made hosting back-to-back seasons difficult.
However, fans will see Daly return to the flagship series for Season 30. That season premieres Monday, September 21, at 8 p.m. ET on NBC, with next-day streaming available on Peac**k. The Season 30 coaching panel features Adam Levine, Kelly Clarkson, Queen Latifah, and Riley Green.
For Season 31, Daly will transition exclusively to a behind-the-scenes production role to help launch the celebrity format, leaving the stage to Palmer.
