After months of demanding television and film commitments, Catherine Zeta-Jones has yet to read her husband Michael Douglas’s memoir, One Helluva Ride, which was released on October 6. The actress discussed the book during an October 8 appearance on the Today show and an E! News interview, explaining that her packed production schedule has left little time to explore the actor’s personal recollections.
Zeta-Jones has been filming the third season of Wednesday and working on Kill Jackie, a series that premiered on AMC+ on October 2. Her commitments included seven months of filming in Dublin, followed by travel to London and Bilbao, Spain.
During her Today appearance, host Willie Geist asked whether Douglas was correct in saying that his wife had not read the memoir.
A Grueling Production Schedule Leaves No Time for Reading
“Look, I’ve just finished Wednesday season 3,” Zeta-Jones, 57, said on the Thursday, October 8, episode of Today, confirming that she had not yet read Douglas’ book. “We shot in Dublin for seven months and then I literally got on a Ryanair plane and landed in London, did all of the Kill Jackie stuff. Then, I went to Spain and now I’m here talking to you, Willie, on the fabulous Today show.”
Due to her busy work schedule, Zeta-Jones noted that she has “no intention” to even skim through her husband’s memoir during her downtime.
“As much as I love my husband, when I’m tired at night, I have no intention of reading about him — at all,” she quipped. “Everyone else should. The book is called One Helluva Ride, and I think everyone should hold onto their cowboy hats because I think it is.”
What is Inside Michael Douglas’ Memoir?
In One Helluva Ride, 82-year-old Douglas chronicled his decades in the spotlight and his various star-studded relationships. The actor revealed that while separated from his first wife, Diandra Luker, he secretly dated costars Kathleen Turner and Jeanne Tripplehorn.
“Kathleen was smart, funny and sexy with a deep, sultry voice that became her signature,” he wrote of Turner, 72, and their experience filming 1984’s Romancing the Stone. “I instantly liked her, and we were immediately attracted to each other.”
Douglas also opened up about his past struggles with substance use during the 1970s and 1980s, which ultimately landed him in rehab. Despite the bombshell revelations and deeply personal stories contained in the book, Zeta-Jones remains entirely unbothered by its contents, pointing out that her husband caught her in a good mood when he checked in on her reaction.
