Actor and model Chet Hanks confronted comedian Eric Andre during ComplexCon in Los Angeles over the weekend. This unexpected moment reignited a public feud that began after a controversial 2023 talk show appearance. Video footage shared across social media captured the tense interaction between the two public figures.
The viral video shows Hanks approaching Andre from behind and tapping him on the shoulder. While Andre initially appeared pleased to see Hanks, his expression quickly shifted to confusion as Hanks engaged him in a direct conversation. In the footage, Andre can be heard asking, “What are you talking about?” before walking away surrounded by security personnel and shouting a parting reference to Hanks’s famous father, Oscar-winning actor Tom Hanks.
Origins of the Feud on The Eric Andre Show
The friction between Hanks and Andre dates back to March 2023. This followed Hanks’s guest appearance on the sixth season of The Eric Andre Show. Ahead of the episode’s broadcast, Andre gave interviews to outlets like Rolling Stone. He alleged that Hanks’s behavior during production was dangerous and chaotic.
Andre claimed that Hanks rode a motorcycle inside the closed studio space and nearly struck crew members working on ladders. He stated that Hanks “broke our crew” and described him as emotionally disturbed. Hanks pushed back heavily against those claims on social media at the time. He argued that he was merely matching the deliberately wild energy of the program. He acknowledged riding a dirt bike on set but maintained that he knew how to operate it safely.
Social Media Reactions and Aftermath at ComplexCon
Following their unexpected run-in at the streetwear convention, Hanks took to Instagram to share his version of events in the post’s caption. He claimed that Andre initially exhibited “NO MEMORY WHATSOEVER” of publicly criticizing him in the media.
Hanks wrote that after being sheltered by security guards, Andre brought up a prior grievance. This involved Hanks’s controversial use of a Jamaican accent in past years, which Andre viewed as mocking Caribbean culture. Hanks sarcastically labeled the comedian a “passionate cultural activist” in his caption.
Neither Hanks nor Andre has indicated whether they plan to address the ongoing dispute further. However, the latest encounter proves that their years-long Hollywood tension remains entirely unresolved.
