Chicago Fire Season 15 Premiere: Cast Exits and New Faces

October 7, 2026 3 min read 0 comments

The hit NBC procedural drama Chicago Fire officially returns for its milestone 15th season on Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2026, at 9 p.m. ET. Picking up right after the dramatic, fiery cliffhanger of the Season 14 finale, the new season brings significant shifts to Firehouse 51. It introduces a fresh crop of firefighter candidates while bidding farewell to several long-standing members of the team.

As part of NBC’s reliable Wednesday night franchise lineup alongside Chicago Med and Chicago P.D., the series continues to film on location at Cinespace Film Studio and Engine 18 in Chicago. For fans looking to stream the action, new episodes are made available on Peacock the following day.

Major Cast Departures Shake Up Firehouse 51

Change is a constant theme for the firefighters and paramedics of Firehouse 51, but Season 15 introduces some of the most profound casting shake-ups in recent years. Most notably, original cast member Joe Minoso is exiting the series early in the season. Minoso has portrayed Joe Cruz since the pilot episode in 2012. Reports indicate his final appearance will arrive around the show’s landmark 300th episode. This gives his character a chance to wrap up his arc following the Season 14 finale cliffhanger where Cruz and several team members became trapped inside a burning storage facility.

Also departing the series is Dermot Mulroney, who joined the cast in Season 13 as Chief Dom Pascal following Chief Wallace Boden’s promotion within the CFD. Mulroney’s character faced a turbulent end to Season 14 when Pascal was briefly let go from the CFD. Mulroney returns in the Season 15 premiere to formally conclude Pascal’s storyline after completing filming in August, bringing his two-season run to a definitive close.

Additionally, guest stars Rob Morgan (Chief Hopkins) and Jeanine Mason (Lucy Zambetti) are not expected to return because their respective arcs concluded in the final episodes of Season 14.

New Firefighter Candidates Join the Ranks

To fill the gaps left by departing characters, Chicago Fire is welcoming a fresh batch of probationary firefighters to the station. BMF and All American star Da’Vinchi joins the main cast as a new series regular playing Marcus Burke. Burke is described as a roguish, funny, and slightly defiant new probie working hard to earn a permanent spot within the CFD.

The new candidate class also expands with guest and recurring additions. These include Matthew Daddario appearing in the season premiere as firefighter candidate McCaffrey, alongside Joe Eichorst as candidate Jansen and K.C. McNeil as candidate Hollis.

Returning Cast and Behind-the-Scenes Changes

Despite the departures, the core heartbeat of Firehouse 51 remains intact. Fans can expect the return of primary series regulars, including:

  • Taylor Kinney as Kelly Severide
  • Miranda Rae Mayo as Stella Kidd
  • David Eigenberg as Christopher Herrmann
  • Christian Stolte as Randall “Mouch” McHolland
  • Hanako Greensmith as Violet Mikami
  • Jocelyn Hudon as Lizzie Novak
  • Brandon Larracuente as Sal Vasquez

Behind the scenes, the show also experienced a major transition. Longtime executive producer and sole showrunner Andrea Newman stepped down after guiding the series through its 14th season, with co-executive producer Victor Teran stepping up to take the reins for Season 15.

What to Expect in Season 15

The immediate priority for the Season 15 premiere is resolving the explosive cliffhanger that left Rescue Squad 3 and Truck 81 trapped inside burning facilities. With lives on the line and major characters exiting, the stakes have never been higher for the Firehouse 51 crew. At the same time, viewers will follow personal developments. These include Kelly Severide and Stella Kidd navigating their ongoing family journey, as well as the integration of the fresh batch of rookies into the house’s tight-knit dynamic.
