Citroen Revives 2 CV Concept for Affordable EV Mobility

October 11, 2026 2 min read 0 comments

Citroen officially unveiled its striking 2 CV Concept at the 2026 Paris Motor Show on October 11, 2026. This compact electric vehicle channels the original historic model’s core values of affordability, lightness, practicality, and distinct character. Developed under the Stellantis umbrella, the new concept addresses modern economic and environmental hurdles in the European electric vehicle market.

Adapting a Legendary Philosophy for Modern Roads

Rather than attempting a literal retro reproduction, Citroen designed the concept to translate the underlying philosophy of the classic 2 CV into a modern framework. According to Stellantis, the vehicle measures 3.76 metres in length, positioning it between the ultra-compact Ami and the larger C3 model.

Citroen CEO Xavier Chardon emphasized the project’s primary mission during the unveiling event. He noted that the vehicle serves as a practical response to the challenge of making electric mobility accessible to everyday drivers across Europe without sacrificing utility or design.

Production Timeline and Pricing Targets

Stellantis has outlined an aggressive timeline to bring the concept to public roadways. A final production version is officially planned for rollout within the next two years.

  • Target Starting Price: Approximately 15,000 euros.
  • Manufacturing Location: Dedicated European production facilities.
  • Segment Placement: Positioned between the Citroen Ami and C3 models.
  • Vehicle Length: Compact 3.76-metre footprint optimized for urban environments.

Addressing the Affordable EV Gap

The automotive industry has faced criticism regarding the high cost of new battery-electric vehicles, which often price average consumers out of the transition to zero-emission driving. By targeting a sub-16,000-euro price point and leveraging a lightweight architecture, Citroen aims to democratize electric transport, much like the original 1948 2 CV put post-war France on wheels.

As Stellantis moves forward with engineering and supply chain preparations over the next 24 months, industry analysts will watch how the brand balances cost-saving measures with modern safety regulations and battery range expectations.
