Emirates flight EK31 diverted to Frankfurt Airport on Thursday after a passenger fell ill mid‑flight, the Dubai Media Office said.
The Airbus A380‑800, registration A6‑EDX, was flying from Dubai to London Heathrow when the issue arose about six hours into the trip. The crew declared an emergency and asked to change course to Frankfurt.
Flight tracking shows the crew sent the emergency signal, prompting a descent and a request to land at Frankfurt. The plane touched down safely on runway 25L at around 16:09 local time and moved to a remote stand.
Cabin crew helped the sick passenger during the flight, and medical teams were waiting on the ground. After landing, the passenger left the aircraft for further care. An Emirates spokesperson confirmed the incident.
“Emirates can confirm that flight EK31 from Dubai to London Heathrow diverted to Frankfurt on 1 October due to a medical emergency involving a passenger onboard,” an Emirates spokesperson said.
The airline apologised for the disruption.
“We apologise to customers for the delay. The health and safety of our passengers and crew is always our highest priority,” the airline said.
Emirates arranged a continuation flight from Frankfurt to London Heathrow, aiming to depart around 18:00 local time (1400 GMT) and arrive later that evening. Passengers faced delays because of the unscheduled stop, and the airline is rebooking affected connections and will send updated itineraries.
The diversion came just days after a separate incident involving a flydubai flight that also made an emergency landing. The two events were unrelated in cause.
Travelers should check with Emirates for the latest updates on flight EK31 and any connecting services.
