An Emirates Airbus A380 operating flight EK31 from Dubai to London Heathrow diverted to Frankfurt Airport on October 1, 2026. The unscheduled stop occurred due to an in-flight passenger medical emergency. The superjumbo aircraft landed safely in Germany so the affected passenger could receive immediate medical attention.

Flight Details and Squawk 7700 Declaration

Flight-tracking data from AIRLIVE and Flightradar24 showed that the aircraft-an Airbus A380-800 registered as A6-EDX-departed Dubai International Airport (DXB) shortly after 11:25 a.m. local time (07:30 UTC). It was heading toward London Heathrow (LHR).

About six hours into the flight, while cruising at roughly 40,000 feet over European airspace, the flight crew transmitted transponder code Squawk 7700. This code signals a general emergency. The double-decker aircraft then began a rapid descent and requested an emergency diversion to Frankfurt Airport (FRA).

Safe Landing and Passenger Support

The aircraft touched down on Frankfurt Airport’s runway 25L at approximately 16:09 local time. It was then parked on a remote stand. Ground-based medical support, arranged by airline operations, met the aircraft upon arrival. The passenger disembarked to receive urgent medical treatment.

“Emirates can confirm that flight EK31 from Dubai to London Heathrow diverted to Frankfurt on 1 October due to a medical emergency involving a passenger onboard. The health and safety of our passengers and crew is always our highest priority,” an official airline spokesperson stated.

Cabin crew members provided first aid to the passenger during the airborne medical crisis. Emirates apologized to customers on board for the unexpected schedule interruption.

Recovery Flight and Itinerary Adjustments

To reduce travel disruptions for the passengers in Frankfurt, Emirates scheduled a recovery leg to resume the journey to London Heathrow. The aircraft was slated to depart Frankfurt (FRA) at 17:30 local time, with an expected arrival in London later that evening.

Airline representatives confirmed that automated systems are processing rebookings for any impacted connecting flights. Updated itineraries were sent directly to affected travelers.
