A Florida man is facing severe felony charges after deputies stated he shot his girlfriend outside a bar, ran her over with his SUV, and fled the scene with a young child inside the vehicle. The violent sequence of events unfolded on Tuesday evening in Safe Harbor, leaving the victim hospitalized in critical condition.

Incident Details and Arrest in Safe Harbor

According to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, 40-year-old Christopher “Dodge” Smith was taken into custody following a brief pursuit on Tuesday, October 13, 2026. Investigators stated that the incident began just before 9 p.m. near the Harbor Bar, located at 840 Main Street in Safety Harbor.

Witnesses reported that Smith arrived at the establishment earlier in the evening, leaving his 5-year-old daughter and the family dog in the parking lot. According to a criminal complaint and witness testimony, Smith appeared to be searching for his 30-year-old girlfriend, Jessica Antolini. He walked around the premises and acted in an erratic, aggressive manner described by some as “possessed.”

Authorities stated that Smith eventually found Antolini outside the bar. The couple engaged in a heated argument just west of the establishment before Smith allegedly shot her in the face. Investigators said that after shooting Antolini, Smith struck her with his SUV as he fled the location.

Sheriff’s Pursuit and Apprehension

Multiple 911 calls from witnesses flooded dispatch lines, providing deputies with descriptions of the shooting and Smith’s vehicle. Responding law enforcement officers quickly located the suspect’s SUV and attempted to conduct a traffic stop.

Smith refused to comply with deputies. This prompted a brief pursuit that ended when law enforcement successfully immobilized his vehicle using a tactical maneuver in the Tarpon Woods area, near Valemoor Drive and Ridgemoor Boulevard. Smith surrendered to deputies without further incident.

Inside the SUV, deputies found Smith’s 5-year-old daughter and the family dog unharmed. Both were safely recovered and reunited with family members. Following his arrest, investigators noted that Smith had allegedly called his mother to confess that he had “messed up” and shot Antolini.

Victim Condition and Legal Charges

Emergency medical responders treated Antolini at the scene for life-threatening injuries before transporting her to Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital in St. Petersburg. Officials confirmed she remains hospitalized in extremely critical condition.

Smith was booked into the Pinellas County Jail and is currently being held without bond. He faces official charges of:

  • Attempted first-degree murder
  • Child abuse

The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the domestic-related shooting. Law enforcement and local advocacy groups urge anyone experiencing domestic violence to seek help immediately. Confidential support is available through local resources such as CASA in Pinellas County or the Florida Domestic Violence Hotline.
