Irish post-punk group Fontaines D.C. released their fifth studio album, Dopamine Chamber, on October 16, 2026, through XL Recordings. Produced by James Ford, the 12-track record follows the band’s 2024 breakthrough album, Romance. The new release shifts the group’s musical direction away from traditional guitar arrangements toward a colder, more synthetic landscape defined by electronic production, dystopian themes, and modern anxieties.
According to frontman Grian Chatten, the title of the record reflects its conceptual framework as an immersive space. “The album itself is a dopamine chamber,” Chatten said in a statement. “You step inside and we test these different mind- or mood-altering pieces of music on you.”
A Shift Toward Synthetic Textures and Dystopian Themes
While Romance propelled the Dublin five-piece from critical favorites to international headliners-earning a GRAMMY nomination for Best Rock Album and a BRIT Award for International Group of the Year-Dopamine Chamber dives deeper into darker stylistic territories. Chatten described the aesthetic evolution by contrasting the two projects: “I think Romance was maybe 60 percent human and 40 percent corrupted by automation, and a loss of feeling. This one feels more like 60 percent corrupted-the mask is wearing the face a little more.”
While writing the record, Chatten spent time traveling through Venice, Vienna, and Sicily. The resulting material addresses contemporary issues such as the rise of artificial intelligence, political violence, climate change, celebrity gossip, and the digital doom-scroll. The album opens with “Six Shot Morning,” a track driven by futuristic synthesizers and heavy bass that sets a foreboding tone for the rest of the record.
Tracklist and Collaborations
The album features eleven standard tracks alongside various vinyl and digital editions, marking the band’s first release to include an external guest vocalist. Spanish pop artist Rosalía joins Chatten on the track “Where Is Gone?”, a cinematic duet that blends mid-century balladry with Morricone-esque grandeur.

Lead single “Marianne,” accompanied by a video directed by Dave Meyers, established the record’s atmospheric approach upon its release. Bassist Conor Deegan explained the thematic shift driving the lyrics: “Our albums have always questioned a sense of place. First Dublin, then being away from Dublin, and then trying to find the romance elsewhere. On this record, the question became: where do you escape to?”
Recording Locations and Live Tour Dates
Dopamine Chamber was recorded across multiple locations, including London, the English countryside, and Palermo, Italy. In Palermo, Chatten constructed a do-it-yourself recording booth utilizing mattresses and cushions to capture specific vocal tones.
To support the release of the album, Fontaines D.C. scheduled an extensive series of tour dates across the UK, Europe, and international markets extending through 2027. These dates feature arena performances and major festival appearances.
