New York Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor reached a major career milestone on Sunday, Sept. 27, by hitting his 300th career home run during the second inning of the regular-season finale against the Washington Nationals at Nationals Park.
The game started following a one-hour rain delay. Lindor connected off Nationals left-hander DJ Herz, launching a 409-foot solo shot to left field at an exit velocity of 110.8 mph. The hit marked his 21st home run of the season and broke a 13-game homerless streak that dated back to Sept. 12, when he hit two home runs at Yankee Stadium.
Lindor’s blast in the second inning immediately followed a home run by teammate Ronny Mauricio. Mauricio homered in his third consecutive at-bat, building on his two long balls from Saturday’s 7-1 victory over Washington.
With this milestone, Lindor became the third primary shortstop in baseball history to reach 300 career home runs, joining Cal Ripken Jr. and Miguel Tejada. He is also the first shortstop in major league history to combine 300 home runs with 200 stolen bases in a career.
The five-time All-Star spent his first six seasons with Cleveland before the Mets acquired him prior to the 2021 season. He has hit 162 home runs since joining New York. Despite missing time this season due to a strained calf between April and July, Lindor finished the year with 21 home runs and 62 RBIs in 105 games.
