Kicker Harrison Mevis delivered a clutch performance on Sunday Night Football, converting a 48-yard field goal in the fourth quarter to secure a tense 19-16 victory for the Los Angeles Rams against the Denver Broncos.
Mevis played a vital role throughout the contest, booting four successful field goals. His accurate kicking included a 40-yard attempt in the first half that helped cap off an early 16-0 lead for the visiting Los Angeles squad.
The Rams’ offense capitalized early when quarterback Matthew Stafford connected with tight end Tyler Higbee for a 5-yard touchdown pass. That score was set up by a crisp 22-yard completion from Stafford to wide receiver Davante Adams.
Los Angeles continued to stretch the field as the game progressed, leaning heavily on running back Kyren Williams. Williams contributed significantly with a powerful 30-yard run and an 18-yard reception along the sideline.
Though the Broncos mounted a fierce second-half comeback to tie the game at 16-16, Stafford and the Rams answered. Stafford found Adams for a crucial 49-yard pass deep in the fourth quarter, moving the offense into scoring range and setting the stage for Mevis to split the uprights for the game-winning points.
