Sir Kevin Sinfield has officially launched his final endurance challenge to raise awareness and funds for Motor Neurone Disease (MND). He is undertaking a grueling schedule of seven ultramarathons in seven days.
The high-profile fundraising campaign kicked off on September 27, 2026, at Hull’s Craven Park stadium. Sinfield has committed to covering a minimum of 45 kilometers (27.9 miles) each day.
The ambitious route visits all 12 Super League clubs. It culminates at Manchester’s Old Trafford just ahead of the Super League Grand Final on October 3.
This effort has already generated nearly £500,000 in early pledges from supporters across the country.
This intense physical endeavor serves as a tribute to Sinfield’s late former Leeds Rhinos teammate, Rob Burrow CBE. Burrow tragically passed away from MND in June 2024 after being diagnosed with the condition in 2019.
Since their playing days together, Sinfield has continually used his platform to champion the cause. He has helped drive national conversation and vital research funding.
The Route and Community Impact
Sinfield’s route is structured into multiple 7-kilometer sections to complete the daily ultramarathon distance. The initiative also incorporates special “extra mile” events.
These events allow members of the MND community and affected families to join him on portions of the route.
Funds accumulated during this grand finale challenge are designated for distribution among several key organizations. These include the MND Association, the Leeds Hospital Charity, the Irish MND Association, the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation, MND Scotland, and the Darby Rimmer Foundation.
Supporters and community members have gathered in large numbers to cheer on the former rugby league star. This turnout reflects the profound and lasting impact that Sinfield and Burrow’s advocacy has had on raising public awareness for motor neurone disease.
