Marvel Ends Daredevil: Born Again With Season 3 in 2027

October 8, 2026 3 min read 0 comments

Marvel Studios has officially confirmed that Daredevil: Born Again will conclude with its upcoming third season. This brings Charlie Cox’s run as Matt Murdock on the Disney+ revival series to a close. Production on the final season wrapped recently, and the show is currently in post-production ahead of a scheduled 2027 premiere.

The decision to end the series follows a turbulent production history and shifting strategies for Marvel’s television division on Disney+. Industry reports indicate that showrunner Dario Scardapane and Marvel quietly parted ways after his contract was not renewed during the post-production phase of Season 3, leaving the final touches on the series under review.

Behind the Production History of Daredevil: Born Again

Announced initially in July 2022 as a massive 18-episode project spearheaded by original head writers Matt Corman and Chris Ord, Daredevil: Born Again underwent a major creative overhaul. This followed production delays caused by the 2023 Hollywood strikes. Marvel implemented a complete creative reset, bringing in Dario Scardapane as showrunner to retool the street-level series into a style more closely aligned with the beloved Netflix original.

Despite strong initial numbers-with Season 1 launching as Disney+’s best series premiere of 2025, drawing 7.5 million viewers worldwide in its first five days-viewership saw a notable drop during its second season. The structural changes and subsequent shift in viewership contributed to Marvel’s decision to cap the revival at three seasons, mirroring the exact lifespan of the original 2015-2018 Netflix series.

What to Expect in Season 3 and the Defenders Reunion

The final season will pick up in the aftermath of the chaotic Season 2 finale. Mayor Wilson Fisk’s (Vincent D’Onofrio) corrupt rule over New York City collapsed, but not before Matt Murdock made the monumental decision to publicly reveal his identity as Daredevil to dismantle the Kingpin’s empire. Consequently, the third season is expected to open with Murdock behind bars.

Set photos and narrative developments have also confirmed a massive reunion for fans of the wider street-level corner of the Marvel universe. Following Krysten Ritter’s return as Jessica Jones in Season 2 and Mike Colter’s cameo as Luke Cage, leaked set materials from Season 3 reveal that Finn Jones’ Danny Rand (Iron Fist) will also return. This brings the original Defenders back together to take down the remnants of Fisk’s criminal regime.

Future of Charlie Cox’s Daredevil in the MCU

While Daredevil: Born Again is officially coming to an end, industry analysts and talent alike suggest this may not be the final chapter for Charlie Cox’s version of the character. Matthew Lillard, who joined the cast in Season 2 as Mr. Charles, noted his desire for the story to continue, though acknowledging the narrative paths remain flexible.

With Cox having already crossed over into major feature films via his cameo in Spider-Man: No Way Home, and Jon Bernthal’s Frank Castle (The Punisher) making the leap to the big screen, the conclusion of the Disney+ series opens up possibilities for the characters to integrate further into upcoming cinematic projects.
