During his Sept. 28 broadcast of “The Pat McAfee Show,” McAfee detailed the eventful game day. He shared insights into what it was like to take in the historic matchup surrounded by multiple generations of football royalty.
The game brought together an unusual dynamic for the Manning family. Texas starting quarterback Arch Manning faced off against the historic program where his uncle Peyton became a legendary icon three decades prior. Texas ultimately secured a 20-17 victory over Tennessee in front of a packed stadium.
Reflecting on the experience, McAfee noted that strict security measures kept the group confined to the luxury box long after the final whistle blew.
“I was very lucky to be in that building. You know, airspace was shut down, so we couldn’t leave. We couldn’t get out of there… But I also got to meet the entire Manning family this weekend,” McAfee said on his show. “To be in that suite was sweet. It was actually like watching history happen with a football family who has given so much.”

McAfee described a lively atmosphere inside the box as family members experienced conflicting loyalties during the back-and-forth contest. The viewing party included college football patriarch Archie Manning, Cooper Manning, Peyton’s son Marshall, and Archie’s wife, Olivia.
“It was a blast watching Peyton, who’s obviously so invested in the Tennessee Vols and everything that he’s done for the Volunteers,” McAfee said. “And then there’s grandpa Archie coming in and supporting Arch and then Cooper in there and young Marshall and Olivia. Just watching that family celebrate Arch was cool because I think even Peyton was conflicted, like ‘I love my nephew, but I love the Tennessee Volunteers.'”
The matchup marked Arch Manning’s first career appearance at Neyland Stadium, adding an extra layer of generational significance to the evening. For McAfee, observing the game from that specific vantage point offered a rare glimpse into a football dynasty reacting to monumental moments in real time.
“You could tell,” McAfee added. “There was history that was taking place.”
