Police Seek Identity of Man Found at Portstewart Promenade

Police in Northern Ireland have launched an urgent public appeal to help identify a man whose body was discovered on rocks near the popular North Coast town of Portstewart. Emergency services were called to the scene close to Portstewart Promenade shortly before 10:00 am on Friday, October 9.

According to the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI), investigators believe the man may have gone missing within the 48 hours prior to the discovery. Officers are urging residents, business owners, and visitors to think about any family members, friends, or neighbors whom they have not seen or heard from recently to ensure they are safe and well.

Detailed Physical Description Released

Detective Inspector Connolly stated that the man was found without any identification or personal belongings that could immediately assist law enforcement in confirming who he is. To establish his identity, police have released a detailed description of the deceased:

  • Age: Believed to be in his late 50s or early 60s
  • Build: Medium build
  • Height: Approximately 6 feet 3 inches tall
  • Hair & Facial Hair: Short white hair and white stubble
  • Clothing: Blue jeans, a black T-shirt, a blue jumper, a blue hoody, and a blue puffa jacket

Investigation and Post-Mortem Examination

Authorities have confirmed that a post-mortem examination has been completed following the recovery of the body. At this stage of the inquiry, detectives have stated that the death is not being treated as suspicious.

“We believe this gentleman may have gone missing within the last 48 hours, and we are asking the public to think about any family members, neighbors, or friends that they haven’t seen or heard from, and to check that they are safe and well,” Detective Inspector Connolly said.
