Prince Harry Calls for Family Reconciliation in New Interview

Prince Harry has renewed his call to repair his relationships with King Charles III and Prince William. He emphasized family reconciliation during a video interview with GQ released on Tuesday. The Duke of Suss*x discussed ongoing family estrangement with host Zach Baron in an interview conducted in September, addressing whether he grieves the strained relationships with his father and older brother.

Harry, 42, stated that he believes repairing family relationships remains crucially important despite past disagreements and years of public tension. Reflecting on the personal impact of family disputes, Harry acknowledged that strained relationships between parents and children, as well as disagreements between siblings, affect many people globally.

Desire for Reconciliation Amid Global Challenges

Speaking to GQ magazine in New York, the Duke of Suss*x highlighted that mending family bonds should take precedence over past conflicts. “With everything else that’s going on in the world, the most important thing is to reconcile-that’s the key point,” Prince Harry said during the interview.

While acknowledging that “scars stick around forever,” Harry encouraged letting go of past grievances. “For me, there’s enough drama in the world and enough drama in people’s lives than to continue with issues with family. It’s not worth it,” he added.

Addressing why the public remains fascinated by his family’s dynamic, Harry noted that the situation is “massively relatable.” He explained, “Sibling disagreements, broken relationships between kids and their parents, kids and one parent-that continues to come up with me the whole time with people that I speak to.”

Clarification on Comments Regarding Family Members

During the conversation, Harry also remarked, “Some people don’t want it to work out. I want it to work out.” This comment initially sparked intense speculation across British media regarding whether it was directed specifically at his estranged brother, Prince William.

However, a spokesperson for the Suss*xes quickly clarified that the reference was not a swipe at Prince William or any other member of the royal family. The spokesperson emphasized that the comment was made within a general context and was not directed at his relatives in any way.

Reflecting on Family, Grief, and Returning to the UK

The interview was released while the British Royal Family was on duty in Windsor welcoming the Sultan of Oman for a state visit. Representatives for the Duke and Suss*xes noted that the interview was recorded in late September and that its release timing was entirely the decision of the publishers, advising that nothing specific should be read into the timing.

Harry also reflected on King Charles III’s health following his cancer treatments, briefly offering an update by saying, “He’s getting better.” Additionally, the duke touched upon growing up with a sense of loss after the 1997 death of his mother, Diana, Princess of Wales, noting that he now carries her memory positively in his work rather than allowing it to pull him down.

Discussing his recent move back to the United Kingdom with his wife, Meghan, and their two children, Archie and Lilibet, Harry explained the significance of the relocation. “Opportunities for the family. Being able to put the kids in a British school has meant a lot to me. I didn’t know how important it was to me,” he said, adding that his children are loving the experience and adjusting well to a different cultural environment.
