More than 60 Broadway performers will assemble to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Jonathan Larson’s landmark rock musical Rent. The star-studded benefit concert is scheduled for October 26, 2026, at the Richard Rodgers Theatre in New York City. All proceeds will directly support Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. Producers recently expanded the roster to feature heavy-hitting talent alongside original cast members, solidifying the evening as one of the most anticipated theatrical events of the year.
Expanded Lineup Brings Broadway Heavyweights to the Stage
Recent casting updates reveal that original cast member Taye Diggs, who famously originated the role of landlord Benny, will return to the production. He joins a rapidly expanding roster that now includes Hollywood star and theater veteran Rachel Zegler, beloved multi-hyphenate Neil Patrick Harris, and Tony Award winner Norbert Leo Butz.
These performers join a foundational group of original cast members who are stepping back into the roles they originated three decades ago. The returning original ensemble includes Tony winners Idina Menzel, Wilson Jermaine Heredia, and Daphne Rubin-Vega, alongside Tony nominee Adam Pascal, Anthony Rapp, and Fredi Walker. Additional original understudies and ensemble members-such as Yassmin Alers, Gilles Chiasson, Shelley Dickinson, David Driver, Darius de Haas, and Rodney Hicks-are also locked in to perform.
The sprawling line-up of musical theater alumni features notable names like Natalie Venetia Belcon, Adam Chanler-Berat, Nicholas Christopher, Merle Dandridge, Trey Ellett, Jordan Fisher, Renée Elise Goldsberry, Jose Llana, John Eric Parker, Jai Rodriguez, Antonique Smith, Ephraim Sykes, and Aaron Tveit.
Production Team and Creative Vision
The one-night-only gala will be steered by key figures from the show’s historic 1996 debut. Michael Greif, the show’s original director and a five-time Tony Award nominee, is returning to helm the concert. Tim Weil, the original music supervisor, will lead the original pit band consisting of Kenny Brescia, Jeff Potter, and Daniel A. Weiss, alongside newcomer Steve Gelfand.
Produced by Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS in collaboration with Andy Jones of Baseline Theatrical, the evening honors Larson’s Pulitzer Prize- and Tony Award-winning vision. Set in the East Village during the height of the 1980s HIV/AIDS epidemic, Rent reimagines Puccini’s opera La Bohème, following young artists fighting for survival, art, and human connection.
Ticketing, Digital Lotteries, and Livestream Access
While in-person tickets for the Richard Rodgers Theatre sold out rapidly, fans still have multiple ways to experience the historic night:
- Livestream Access: A global digital stream is available for $30 through Broadway Cares, produced in collaboration with The League of Live Stream Theater.
- The Gates Foundation Match: The Gates Foundation has pledged to double the impact of every livestream ticket purchased by matching donations up to $525,600, aiding global efforts to combat health inequities.
- Digital Ticket Lottery: Nodding to Rent‘s historic legacy of theatrical accessibility-which pioneered the modern Broadway rush ticket-producers organized a digital lottery making 24 in-person box seats available for $30 each.
As the theater community prepares to mark three decades of “Measuring in Love,” the October 26 event promises to honor Larson’s enduring legacy while generating crucial financial support for individuals living with HIV/AIDS and other critical illnesses nationwide.
