A24 has officially released the teaser trailer and first full look at Slayground, a high-stakes Halloween-set thriller directed by filmmaker Jeremy Saulnier. Following a competitive bidding process, the studio acquired the project and slated the film for a nationwide theatrical release on January 29, 2027.
Plot and Premise of Jeremy Saulnier’s Slayground
Previously operating under the working title October, the film combines elements of classic action-chase narratives with gritty horror. The plot centers on Metal Mike Graves, a scare actor and employee at a haunted attraction. On October 24, a mass-casualty incident occurs at the venue, leaving multiple fatalities in its wake.
Graves wakes up at the center of the chaos, covered in blood and surrounded by the dead bodies of his coworkers, with no memory of how the events happened. As a statewide manhunt closes in around him, Graves is forced to go on the run. He must race against time to reconstruct that terrifying night and clear his name, while facing the grim reality that the evidence points directly to him.
Cast, Crew, and Production Details
Leading the ensemble cast is Cory Michael Smith as Metal Mike Graves. He is joined by a supporting lineup featuring Chase Sui Wonders, Sophie Wilde, Young Mazino, Stephen Root, Matty Matheson, Stanley Simons, James Badge Dale, Imogen Poots, and Macon Blair in a small role.
Behind the camera, Jeremy Saulnier serves as writer, producer, and director. The production team also features Rich Peete, Eli Bush, and Skei Saulnier, alongside executive producers Ronald Bronstein, Josh Safdie, Traci Carlson, Elliott Coley, and Macon Blair. Academy Award-winning Nine Inch Nails composers Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross provide the film’s original score.
Marketing and Release Timeline
The rollout for Slayground has generated significant intrigue. Initial promotional materials-including a 40-second teaser and a cryptic website featuring a countdown clock-previously pointed to a fall release date. However, A24 ultimately shifted the rollout to early next year.
With its arrival locked in for January 29, 2027, industry watchers anticipate the thriller could make a major festival stop ahead of its theatrical debut. The film marks Saulnier’s return to hard-hitting genre storytelling following his acclaimed 2024 Netflix thriller Rebel Ridge and his celebrated 2015 breakout horror film Green Room.
