Siouxland Warm Spell Pushes October Temperatures Above Average

October 19, 2026 2 min read 0 comments

Unseasonably warm and dry weather has defined October across Siouxland, where Sioux City is recording average daily highs of 74.8 degrees Fahrenheit. According to data published by KCAU, this prolonged warmth persists despite a brief mid-month cooldown, with mild conditions expected to continue into the new week.

Sioux City’s current October average high sits 12 degrees above the normal monthly average of 62.8 degrees. Temperatures have exceeded seasonal averages on more than half of the month’s recorded days, punctuated by a record high on October 10 and a tied record on October 11.

Dry Conditions and Elevated Fire Risks

Alongside the persistent warmth, rainfall has fallen significantly short of typical October levels. Sioux City has received just 0.55 inches of rain against a normal monthly total of 2.2 inches. Measurable rainfall has occurred on only four days during the month, with just one of those days bringing more than 0.1 inches of precipitation.

The combination of above-average temperatures, low relative humidity, and occasional high winds has heightened fire safety concerns throughout the region. Local authorities have implemented burn bans in several counties, urging residents to limit outdoor activities that could potentially generate sparks.

Forecast Outlook for Siouxland

Forecasters indicate that while minor temperature fluctuations and occasional cloud cover will move through the tri-state area, the overarching warm and dry pattern remains dominant. Residents are advised to monitor local updates from weather services for any shifts in regional fire risks and incoming precipitation chances.
