Taylor Swift achieved a major milestone at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards on September 27, receiving the inaugural Artist Director Honors at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. The newly established award recognizes her extensive work as a filmmaker behind the camera and officially makes her the most decorated artist in VMA history.
Swift entered the ceremony tied with Beyoncé at 30 Moon Person trophies each. Receiving the Artist Director Honors brought Swift’s career total to 31 awards, placing her sole atop the all-time wins list.
Recognizing a Decade of Visual Storytelling
CBS and MTV created the Artist Director Honors to celebrate groundbreaking musicians whose directorial projects have advanced visual storytelling and expanded the possibilities of music videos. Swift made her solo directorial debut in 2020 with the music video for her single “The Man,” which won her first Best Direction VMA.

Hosted by rapper Snoop Dogg, the 2026 ceremony marked the return of the awards show to Los Angeles for the first time in nearly a decade. The event broadcast live on CBS and MTV while streaming on Paramount+.
