The pop superstar secured the coveted Video of the Year award for “The Fate of Ophelia” and was honored with the inaugural Artist Director Award earlier in the evening, bringing her career total to 32 Moon Person trophies.
The latest victories extend Swift’s lead over Beyoncé as the most-awarded solo artist in the history of the awards show. Accepting the top video honor from host Snoop Dogg, Swift dedicated the trophy to the late country legend Dolly Parton, who passed away in August at the age of 80.
“Every single song that she wrote, her storytelling was so vivid and so rich,” Swift told the audience during her acceptance speech. “She handled this thing with such grace and joy and love and gratitude for the fact that she got to do this.”
Expanding Directorial Legacy
Earlier in the ceremony, actress Dakota Johnson presented Swift with the brand-new Artist Director Honors. The category was established this year to recognize groundbreaking artists whose work behind the camera expands the boundaries of visual storytelling.
Accepting the honor on stage at the Peacock Theater while wearing a black and silver Tamara Ralph Couture dress, Swift noted that she has been involved in making roughly 60 music videos over the past two years, having written and directed 18 of them herself.
“The main reason why I love writing and directing music videos so much is because you, the fans, make it so much fun,” Swift said. Following her remarks, she surprised the crowd by debuting the official music video for her single “Patient Zero,” which stars Dakota Johnson and Colin Farrell.
