In the letter accompanying the Treasury Department checks, Trump criticized prior policies regarding health insurance marketplace fees.
“For years, the Biden administration overcharged you to fund the operation of HealthCare.gov. That money belongs to hard-working Americans, not the Government, and now I’m returning it to you!” Trump wrote in the letter viewed by media outlets.
The administration asserted that the Biden administration collected user fees from health insurance companies. Consumers paid these fees through higher premiums. This accumulated a surplus that surpassed the funds required to operate HealthCare.gov. The rollout arrives five weeks prior to the November midterm elections, as health care costs and affordability remain central political issues.
