A new strategic partnership framework between the World Bank Group and Burkina Faso has been officially aligned with the national development priorities outlined by President Ibrahim Traore. The alignment was solidified following high-level discussions held in Ouagadougou on Friday, Oct. 2, 2026.

World Bank Vice President for West and Central Africa, Ousmane Diagana, presented the outlines of the strategy during an audience with President Traore. This presentation followed the official approval of the partnership framework by the institution’s Board of Directors three months prior.

Focus on Socio-Economic Resilience and Employment

The newly aligned agreement is structured to convert Burkina Faso’s socio-economic resilience into sustainable economic initiatives. A primary focus of the framework is creating employment opportunities across vital sectors of the country’s economy.

Key areas targeted by the partnership include:

  • Strengthening local socio-economic resilience
  • Driving sustainable job creation for youth and vulnerable populations
  • Supporting national infrastructure and development priorities
  • Enhancing productivity in critical economic sectors

Through this collaboration, the World Bank aims to provide financial and technical backing to support the transitional government’s stabilization and growth agenda, ensuring international financial support closely mirrors domestic leadership goals.
