Birdfy has officially launched its smart birdwatching application on the Roku Channel Store, marking the first time a smart birding ecosystem has built a dedicated app for a major TV streaming platform. Released on September 18, 2026, the software allows owners of motion-activated camera feeders to stream backyard wildlife directly to their television screens.
The companion TV application is compatible with any Roku TV, streaming stick, or box running Roku OS 15.1 or newer. Instead of relying on a smartphone screen, users can view live streams and saved clips in full detail on a larger display. According to Birdfy CEO Allen Chen, the integration aims to provide a more immersive viewing experience for backyard nature enthusiasts.
The software connects directly to Birdfy’s existing hardware products, which feature motion-activated cameras paired with an artificial intelligence recognition engine. This AI system can identify over 99% of North American backyard bird species. Saved videos and photos are automatically organized into a full-screen grid sorted by time and species, enabling users to easily search for specific visitors like Blue Jays or Red-bellied Woodpeckers.
In addition to personal viewing, the app includes a long-distance sharing tool. A built-in feature generates a “TV Cast Code” inside the mobile application, allowing users to stream their backyard clips directly to remote Roku devices owned by friends or family members anywhere in the world. The platform also grants access to a broader community network connecting over 2.4 million active Birdfy app users globally.
