The milestone score came on a dramatic 82-yard trick play. Facing a third-and-12, quarterback Brock Purdy connected on a short pass to receiver Mike Evans. Evans then quickly flipped a lateral back to a crossing Samuel, who found an open lane and sprinted 80 yards to the end zone. The explosive play gave the 49ers an early 7-0 lead.
While the sequence went down as an 82-yard passing play for Purdy, the official statistics credit Evans with a two-yard reception and Samuel with 80 yards and a score, though Samuel did not receive credit for a catch on the play.
Entering the matchup against Arizona, Samuel’s career total stood at 49 touchdowns, comprised of 28 receiving and 21 rushing scores. This latest trip to the end zone cements another impressive chapter for the versatile playmaker in San Francisco.
