All southbound lanes of Interstate 75 in Montgomery County were completely shut down early Thursday morning following a severe semi-truck crash near Wagner Ford Road, according to local law enforcement and traffic officials.
The incident occurred shortly before 4 a.m. when a semi-truck struck a guardrail on southbound I-75. The highway closure severely impacted morning commute traffic. It trapped motorists and brought transit to a standstill near the crash site, which is located approximately half a mile from the southbound I-75 exit to Stanley Avenue.
Emergency Response and Hazmat Deployment
Law enforcement officers and emergency crews quickly responded to the scene. Aerial footage captured by Sky 7 showed the heavily damaged semi-truck resting against the highway guardrail alongside what appeared to be a significant roadway spill.
A sergeant with the Montgomery County Regional Dispatch Center confirmed that hazardous materials personnel were requested to respond to the scene. As of Thursday morning, official reports had not specified the exact substance involved in the spill or confirmed whether it posed a long-term public safety hazard.
Traffic Impact and Detours
Traffic monitoring via OHGO cameras confirmed that all southbound lanes remained blocked at Wagner Ford Road while crews worked to clear the wreckage and assess environmental concerns. Commuters were advised to seek alternate routes, including local detours around the affected section of the interstate.
News Center 7 has reached out to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office to gather further details regarding the cause of the collision and to determine if any injuries occurred during the crash. Local authorities continue to investigate the incident as this developing story unfolds.
