Jax Explains Why She Ended Her Love Is Blind Engagement

The eleventh season of Netflix’s hit reality dating series Love Is Blind delivered one of its most awkward and viral moments during the first batch of episodes, which premiered on October 14, 2026. Boston entrepreneur Jacqueline Guelli, known on the show as Jax, chose to abruptly leave the experiment and end her engagement to Scott “Stew” Stewart immediately after their first face-to-face meeting in Episode 4.

Following the release of the episodes, 31-year-old Jax spoke candidly about what triggered her sudden exit. She explained that an overwhelming wave of emotions and a total mismatch in connection drove her to make a sharp exit from the pods without a final goodbye.

What Triggered the Sudden Breakup?

Although six couples successfully left the pod phase engaged, Jax and Stew’s relationship quickly unraveled upon crossing paths outside the barrier. Speaking with media outlets including E! News, TODAY, and USA TODAY, Jax revealed that the cracks actually began during Stew’s proposal in the pods. She felt it lacked genuine romance and resembled a rehearsed checklist.

“It was weird,” Jax explained. “I would’ve hoped that he was up all night writing, but it felt like he was just winging it. It wasn’t about me at all. I was bummed, and I couldn’t comprehend it at the time, because you want to be happy.”

Despite her initial hesitations-including concerns over Stew never having been in a serious relationship before-she decided to trust the process. However, their physical reveal pushed her past her breaking point. She stated that Stew’s demeanor during their initial greeting felt c**ky and unexpected, triggering an immediate internal reaction.

“He just seemed really c**ky in a way, and I was like, ‘OK, this is not what I was expecting,'” Jax noted. “The walls did not come down for me. I was like, ‘This is not romantic at all.’ I went completely into flight mode, and I was like, ‘I gotta get out of here. This is not right.'”

Leaving Without a Conversation

Rather than sitting down to discuss her feelings with Stew, Jax informed production that she wanted to go home immediately, declining any opportunity to speak with him. She even asked producers to withhold her contact information from him. This left Stew completely blindsided when production broke the news that she had departed for Boston and refused to attend the couples’ retreat in Mexico.

Stew, a 34-year-old director of engineering, admitted he had no inkling that anything was wrong during the reveal. “There was so much going on during the reveal that, like, that was the last thing in my mind,” Stew shared with TODAY.com. “It was such a crazy experience with the doors opening, seeing this person that you’ve proposed to, that you’re engaged with for the first time.”

Despite being caught off guard and left questioning the status of their relationship on camera, Stew expressed a degree of grace toward his former partner. He noted that neither of them presented their best selves under such intense, unprecedented pressure.

Reflections and Looking Ahead

Reflecting on her handling of the situation, Jax admitted she has regrets regarding how the split unfolded. She acknowledged that her behavior fell short of how she would typically manage conflict in her everyday life.

“I wish I had handled it better,” Jax said. “He deserved a conversation, and it deserved to end differently, because he’s a gentleman and I should have handled it like a lady, but I didn’t.”

While their initial run in the pods ended in a swift and ghosting-style departure, the story between Jax and Stew is not entirely over. Teasers at the end of Episode 5 revealed that the two would eventually meet face-to-face in Boston to address the unresolved tension of their broken engagement, with subsequent episodes dropping on Netflix to show how their final conversation transpired.
