Harry and Meghan Settle Into UK Life as Children Start School

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are settling into an extended stay in the United Kingdom. Their children’s adjustment to school takes top priority as the family establishes a new routine in the Cotswolds. After spending six years living in California following their decision to step back from active royal duties, the couple returned to British soil with Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5, in late August.

Establishing a consistent daily routine and helping Archie and Lilibet adapt to their new school environment have been the initial focus for the Duke and Duchess of Suss*x. A source told People magazine that the children’s well-being remains Meghan’s primary concern. The source noted that everything else will fall into place when the time is right, given the massive scale of relocating a family halfway across the world.

Glimpses of British Countryside Life

The family has kept most details of their home and education arrangements private to protect their children’s security and privacy. However, Meghan Markle offered a rare window into their new life via social media. On October 11, the Duchess shared a video on Instagram Stories capturing quiet moments in the English countryside. The clip showed Archie riding a scooter along a tree-lined path while Lilibet walked nearby. Their Labrador, Pula, accompanied them, and deer were visible in the background.

The short footage featured classic soundtracks, including The Temptations’ “My Girl” and Wham!’s “Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go,” marking a rare visual update. Observers noted that Archie displayed a distinct British accent during the family clips, signaling a swift transition following their return.

Addressing Privacy and Security Challenges

The relocation has not been entirely without hurdles. Reports emerged that Archie and Lilibet briefly changed schools after just two days because their security team flagged concerns regarding the school run and local traffic. Additionally, privacy boundaries were tested when Meghan’s phone number was allegedly exposed via a parent WhatsApp group. Police also investigated incidents involving international photographers observing the children’s new school from a rented van.

Despite these challenges, Prince Harry expressed positive sentiments about the move during a September 25 interview with Canadian broadcaster CTV. He stated, “The kids are happy in school,” and added, “It’s been great to be back on British soil.”

Official Royal Status and Public Engagements

The family’s return coincides with ongoing clarity regarding their official status within the British monarchy. Correspondence issued via the Lord Chamberlain on behalf of King Charles III reaffirmed that Harry and Meghan remain non-working royals. They operate as private citizens with commercial and charitable interests while keeping their HRH styles in abeyance.

Even so, the couple has begun stepping back into joint public appearances. On October 15, Harry and Meghan visited youth and community organizations in Nottingham. This marked their first joint public engagement in Britain since relocating their family back to the U.K.
