Visitors to Chester Zoo in northern England can now explore four billion years of Earth’s history through a groundbreaking 50-minute immersive production. Titled Our Story with David Attenborough, the attraction officially opened on October 17, 2026. This marks the first time the complete exhibition has been presented outside of London.
The production occupies the zoo’s former Ape House. This building has undergone a dramatic transformation into a dedicated immersive space. Audiences are surrounded by extraordinary wildlife footage, scientifically accurate animations, and sweeping 360-degree projections that stretch across both walls and floors.
Developed with Open Planet Studios and narrated by Sir David Attenborough, the experience takes spectators on a chronological journey through the planet’s past. The show also examines humanity’s impact on the natural world and offers practical pathways for living harmoniously alongside nature.
Building on London Success
The opening in Chester follows a successful initial run at London’s Natural History Museum, where the production debuted in June 2025. Driven by public demand, the London engagement was extended multiple times, drawing more than 245,000 attendees.
By bringing the attraction to Chester Zoo, organizers have made the experience accessible to audiences across northern England without requiring a trip to the capital.
Dom Strange, Chief Operating Officer at Chester Zoo, highlighted the significance of the launch:
“We’re incredibly proud to have brought Our Story to Chester. It’s a remarkable experience, and being the first venue outside London to host the full production makes this a really special moment for us. Sir David Attenborough has inspired generations of people to care about the natural world. This experience gives people the chance to immerse themselves in the story of our planet in a completely different way.”
A Multi-Sensory Production
The 50-minute experience relies on more than visual spectacle. It blends cinematography, digital animation, and storytelling with an original musical score crafted by Tony Award- and Olivier Award-nominated composer Nick Powell.
While the narrative addresses climate change and biodiversity loss, its core message is ultimately one of hope. Organizers intend for visitors to leave with a renewed sense of wonder about the Earth and a clear understanding of the choices that will shape the planet’s future.
Tickets for Our Story with David Attenborough at Chester Zoo start at £15. Visitors can find further details and booking information directly through the official Chester Zoo website.
