Jason Statham’s latest action thriller, Mutiny, is finding a new audience at home. It has climbed to the top of digital movie charts on major platforms like Amazon and Apple TV following its theatrical run.

From Box Office Struggles to Digital Success

Lionsgate released Mutiny exclusively in theaters in North America on August 21, 2026. Sky Cinema and StudioCanal distributed the film in the United Kingdom. The movie experienced a modest theatrical window. With a reported production budget of $40 million, the film grossed $24.3 million worldwide. It failed to ignite a global box office sensation.

However, the R-rated film has experienced a swift turnaround on digital platforms. Lionsgate made Mutiny available to rent or purchase on VOD services on September 8, 2026. This was just 18 days after its theatrical debut. According to FlixPatrol metrics, the 95-minute action feature quickly surged to No. 1 on both Amazon’s movie chart and the Apple TV Store’s movie chart.

Plot and Cast Details

Jean-François Richet directed Mutiny. The film features Statham as Cole Reed, a former police officer, Royal Marine commando, and Special Forces operative. Reed works as a bodyguard and head of security for a billionaire shipping magnate in Singapore.

He becomes a stowaway aboard the Artemis, one of Campallo’s container ships, while searching for answers. Once aboard, Reed discovers the ship is transporting an illegal human trafficking container. Critical Reception and Streaming Future

Reviews for Mutiny have skewed mixed-to-negative. The film holds a 50% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Critics generally praise Statham’s reliable physical performance and the maritime action sequences. However, they take issue with a convoluted plot and grim tone. Screen Rant reviewer George Bate awarded the film a 3 out of 10. He noted that it struggles to do much of anything particularly well, though he acknowledged it fulfills expectations for fans seeking a classic Statham-led action vehicle.

For viewers wondering about subscription-based streaming, Mutiny is not yet available on any standard streaming tier. As part of Lionsgate’s distribution pipeline, the film is expected to make its subscription streaming debut on Starz roughly four months after its theatrical release, projecting a December 2026 arrival. Following its Starz window, the movie is expected to rotate onto services like Prime Video.

In the meantime, audiences can rent Mutiny for $19.99 or purchase it digitally for $24.99 across platforms including Prime Video and Apple TV.
