Kim Kardashian Recalls Searching OJ Simpson’s Luggage as Teen

Kim Kardashian recently revisited a childhood experience involving O.J. Simpson’s luggage. She linked her early exposure to the famous 1995 murder trial with her later ambitions in law and criminal justice reform. The television personality shared the anecdote during an October 15, 2026, appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!. She reflected on the period when Simpson stayed at the family home of her late father, Robert Kardashian.

Playing Investigator at Age 14

During her interview with host Jimmy Kimmel, Kim Kardashian discussed growing up behind the scenes of one of America’s most closely watched legal cases. Robert Kardashian famously renewed his inactive law license to join Simpson’s defense team. Simpson was ultimately acquitted in 1995 of the murders of his former wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ronald Goldman.

Kim recalled that after the trial proceedings concluded, Simpson stayed at their family home. Observing the intense media coverage unfolding on television and inside her own house inspired the 14-year-old to conduct her own search.

“I just was so into it, and I saw everything from behind the scenes,” Kim told Kimmel. “O.J. had come to stay with my dad at the house, and he had this Louis Vuitton luggage and brought it into the house. And I see everything on the news, but I see it in real life at my house, so I’m like, ‘I’m going to play investigator, and I want to go through his luggage and see if I can find anything!’”

She opened and examined the bags inside her sister Khloé Kardashian’s bedroom. However, her investigative curiosity quickly turned into panic.

“I see on the news, like, ‘We’re seizing the bag because we think something’s in it,’” Kim continued. “And I’m like, ‘Oh my God! My fingerprints are all over it.’ And so it made me realize, like, people can be involved that aren’t involved and I need to help them.”

Connecting Childhood Memories to Legal Ambitions

This childhood memory served as a formative moment that shaped Kim Kardashian’s later trajectory toward criminal justice reform and legal studies. In recent years, she has advocated for clemency and prison reform. She utilizes California’s apprenticeship program to study under certified attorneys rather than taking a traditional law school route.

She passed the First-Year Law Students’ Examination in 2021. However, she revealed that she did not pass the California Bar Exam when she took it in 2025. Despite setbacks, her public advocacy and commitment to studying law remain central to her career focus.

Robert Kardashian’s Influence

Kim has frequently credited her late father-who passed away from esophageal cancer in 2003-with instilling a strong work ethic. He also inspired her passion for the legal field. Her mother, Kris Jenner, had been a close friend of Nicole Brown Simpson and split from Robert in 1990. Despite this, Kim maintains that her father would be proud of her pursuit to become an attorney and advocate for individuals caught within the justice system.
