A man has died after entering a tiger enclosure at Yorkshire Wildlife Park near Doncaster in northern England on Saturday, October 10, 2026, according to South Yorkshire Police. Emergency responders treated the man at the scene following the attack, but medical personnel were unable to save him.

South Yorkshire Police stated that they received reports of the incident at 1:35 p.m. on Saturday. Witnesses reported seeing the man enter the enclosure by leaping from a viewing platform. The animal involved, identified as a five-year-old male Amur tiger named Altai, subsequently attacked the man, resulting in fatal injuries.

Police Response and Public Safety

Authorities confirmed that the tiger was not injured during the incident and remained safely inside its enclosure. Police stressed that there was no wider risk to the general public. Officers remained at the facility throughout Saturday evening to carry out formal investigations.

Police also confirmed that the victim’s family had been informed and were receiving specialized support from trained officers. In a statement, South Yorkshire Police urged the public not to share distressing video footage of the incident that began circulating on social media platforms shortly after the event.

Park Closure and Emergency Procedures

Yorkshire Wildlife Park management issued a statement confirming that a serious incident occurred within one of its tiger enclosures and that emergency response procedures were activated immediately.

“We can confirm that a serious incident has occurred today at the tiger enclosure,” the park said in an online statement. “Our emergency response procedures were immediately activated, and emergency services are currently attending the scene. We are working closely with the authorities to ascertain exactly what happened.”

The facility was evacuated safely, and management announced that the park would remain closed for the remainder of the weekend, covering both Saturday and Sunday, while investigations continue.

About the Tiger Attraction

Yorkshire Wildlife Park opened in 2009 and launched its “Land of the Tigers” attraction in 2011. The dedicated zone is a purpose-built, two-acre reserve designed specifically for endangered Amur tigers, a rare subspecies with an estimated 500 individuals remaining in the wild.

The habitat features a 300-meter raised wooden walkway allowing visitors to observe the large cats as they roam through woodlands, open grasslands, and waterfall pools. Park officials reiterated that visitor, staff, and animal safety remains the institution’s highest priority as they cooperate fully with local authorities and emergency services.
