Meta Platforms Inc. chief executive officer Mark Zuckerberg unveiled the new Muse personal artificial intelligence agent and a pocket-sized handheld companion device called the Muse Charm. This took place during the Meta Connect event in Menlo Park, California, on Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2026. The announcements mark a major expansion of Meta’s consumer hardware and AI ecosystem.
The Muse Charm is a keychain-style, handheld device featuring a roughly 2-inch touchscreen and built-in 5G connectivity. It is designed to let users interact directly with the Muse AI agent without pulling out a smartphone or wearing smart glasses. The device features a fingerprint sensor to start conversations quickly. Meta announced that the Muse Charm is expected to become available for purchase in December, though pricing details have not yet been released.
Expanding the Muse AI Platform
Rather than introducing an entirely new standalone assistant, the Muse Charm serves as a secondary access point for Meta’s existing Muse AI agent. Muse is already accessible via a dedicated mobile application, WhatsApp, the web, and macOS. During the event, Zuckerberg and Meta Chief AI Officer Alexander Wang outlined several updates to the platform, including future integration with Meta’s smart glasses.
The platform handles multi-step workflows, browses the web, creates documents, and manages reminders. Meta is also rolling out new “connectors” to integrate Muse with major third-party platforms across e-commerce, travel, and productivity. This includes expanding retail partnerships with companies like Walmart and Best Buy to support agent-based shopping capabilities.
Rapid Consumer Adoption and Market Impact
The Muse agent launched as a smartphone application in early September and rapidly climbed the Apple App Store charts. According to Futurum CEO Daniel Newman, the application racked up millions of downloads in its first two weeks. This drove a noticeable surge in Meta’s stock price.
“This new Muse agentic platform is taking over the internet,” Newman stated. He noted that the strong market response highlights a shift in how consumers adopt artificial intelligence applications. Meta intends to make Muse available without charge for a large number of tokens. The company will apply a small transaction fee to specific advanced activities.
Among its practical features, the AI agent assists users with everyday administrative tasks. For example, it identifies and cancels unnecessary recurring subscriptions. According to data from ScribeUp, the median consumer manages more than 12 recurring subscription payments. This makes automated tools for surfacing forgotten charges increasingly relevant.
