FCSB Board of Directors President Mihai Stoica sharply criticized several Romanian national team players after their 4-2 defeat against Bosnia and Herzegovina at the National Arena. Speaking out after the heavy UEFA Nations League loss, Stoica expressed deep frustration with the squad’s performance and individual mistakes.
Stoica stated that the match helped national team management identify players who should no longer receive senior squad call-ups. According to the club official, multiple team members performed poorly and failed to justify wearing the national jersey.
Severe Criticism Directed at Ionuț Radu and Defensive Pair
The FCSB official focused his heaviest criticism on starting goalkeeper Ionuț Radu. He pointed to a critical error that resulted in a Bosnian goal when the La Liga player dropped the ball in his own box, describing the mistake as unacceptable for a professional.
„Când vine Ionuț Radu și face așa ceva… Nu știu cum poate să se uite în ochii coechipierilor. Nu se poate ca un portar titular în La Liga să ia golul ăsta. E bătaie de joc,” a declarat Mihai Stoica la Prima Sport 1.
Stoica also targeted the defensive partnership and individual outfield players. He criticized central defender Andrei Burcă for his lack of pace and positioning, noting that he hid behind the goalkeeper during crucial defensive sequences. Additional criticism went to Valentin Mihăilă, Coubiș, and Tony Strata for failing to match the intensity required at the international level.
Evaluating Romania’s Standing in International Football
Reflecting on Romanian football, Stoica argued that the national team lacks elite-level value and depth. He contrasted players who fail to secure regular minutes at lower-tier foreign clubs with those performing consistently at top European levels. He emphasized that acknowledging these structural shortcomings is the first step toward recovery.
The defeat leaves Romania struggling in their Nations League group, increasing pressure on the technical staff and management to reevaluate squad selections ahead of upcoming fixtures against Sweden and Poland.
